Launch, or crash and burn….. we’ll see.

OK, have at it. Now, anyone who has their own blog who would like to get it up here, let me know. I’m off to figure out all these new buttons and gizmos.

  1. Yup, you were #1, Toobizy.
I was too bizy trying to figure out how to add a comment.
Let’s see, am I commenting using my worldmag account or my own blog account. They use the same avatar so it’s hard to tell.

Not sure if you’re talking about creating a blogroll, but my blog is paulinege.wordpress.com

  3. And I see that it’s my blog account I’m commenting under. Good! I always did dislike having to log out of one into the other when I went between my blog and the one at worldmag.

  4. I like the “4 out of 5 dentists” line. But I want to know what’s wrong with that fifth dentist that he doesn’t recommend it. There is absolutely nothing here that is bad for your oral hygiene.

  5. For the blog name, and you’re not monopolizing. Anybody else that pops in will need to be a little patient, until I approve you, your comments won’t show. But I will approve anyone.

  6. So glad you got this started AJ. I read daily and have for several years. Not much on posting, but do pray for all of yall. Like Mumsee this is my outlet for adult conversation. It helps to remember that every person has struggles and victories. Thanks for sharing all of yours…

  7. “4 out of 5 dentists recommend…” just wondering if Drill is the 5th dentist since he has not shown up here yet?

  8. Thank you so much, AJ, for setting this up!

I liked Donna’s idea (posted on Whirled Views) of Who Moved the Watercooler?

  9. QoD Name of the daily open thread? I will risk a suggestion which will probably be knocked out of the sky by other better suggestions! Flight of the Whirled Bird in honor of Whirled Views.

  10. How about The Whirlers. As Chas reminded you our beloved Anlir suggeste we have an open thread to post whatever we liked I think he and Lynn Vincent came up with Whirled Views which was a take off on the bumper sticker that said Visualize Whirled Peas (Visualize World Peace).

AJ again I cannot express how happy I am that you set this up. I want a wounded, angry person this morning. I started to write out my memories of the blog but there is just too much to say and so many of you were there and encouraging me through it all. I didn’t want to lose that.

  11. Kim, I actually started to cry when I read that they were getting rid of Whirled Views & Rants-&-Raves. So glad AJ has set this up. 🙂

  12. Of course, my husband & daughters just don’t get it. But we really have become a little community. I think the fact that we are connected spiritually as believers probably has something to do with the “closeness” we feel.

  13. This is going to be a bit tougher to keep up with, with the replies that show up right under the replied-to comment.

  14. As I recall from a thread awhile back, a lot of the people who comment on here are introverts. This is a good format for communication between introverts with a few extroverts in the mix to keep things from getting too intense.

  15. Workin’ on it Karen. It appears I can’t have numbers with the reply feature on, but you can’t reply to specific posts if we have numbers. I’m leaning toward numbers and doing away with the reply to feature.

  16. I think numbers are best, AJ, IMO. People can come here for the public group posts. Those who wish to reply privately can share e-mails or FB info as is already being done. Then we can continue the fun with numbers.

Thank you s-o-o-o much for all your time and patience in getting the bugs worked out!

  18. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, AJ!!! Yes, I’m shouting! Shouting for joy. 🙂 You don’t know what a relief it is to me that we can continue the conversation. I need this outlet more than y’all know. What a blessing!

  19. Karen, I cried too. This was like another death to me; I lost enough friends last year, and suddenly it seemed I was going to lose all of you in just a matter of days. I am also so glad what AJ has done here for us. 🙂

  20. Kim, I felt the same way. And one of the things that made me the saddest was thinking there would be no blog through which I could send birthday wishes to your daughter on our shared birthday. That really is special to me that our birthdays are the same day. Now when 09-09 rolls around, I can do just that! 🙂

  21. Karen and 6Arrows that is what it was for me. I doubt I ever post to World again, of course by now I should learn to never say never. I will admit to being small enough to have a little glee when I look at all the Aderall posts and the lack of response or that they have several “newsy” things up and no one has commented on them, but that is just the hurt and anger speaking. Tomorrow I will be different.

While I was there I was in a bad relationship (not my marriage that was over before I found World) that I had to drag myself out of, I almost experienced bankruptcy, my dad died, and my world fell apart. For a good portion of that time I felt alone and knowing that I could share things with all of you that I couldn’t share with the people in my real life was a safety net. In the past few months I have joined the living again as far as dating and over the last four years I have gotten pretty happy, but today I just couldn’t face another loss. I went and got in the shower, cried, and tried to convince myself I was in a much better place and I would be starting a new job and wouldn’t need all of you anyway…but I did and I do! Glad to know I still have you.

  23. Hey, I am on too! Drill. Impresive, AJ: Are you interested in being head of IT for Drill Enterprises, Inc.? Some headhunters from off-planet apparently hired away the last guy I had in the job. Well, I assume it was a headhunter outfit – that’s all they took, anyway.

  25. Hi Mumsee: You have been put into storage until your paperwork has been properly completed. In order to get out of storage, you will need to provide (to the responsible authorities) your paperwork, in originals and in triplicate, with raised embossed seals.

However, your paperwork is currently at Headquarters, not in storage with you. You can, however, pick it up at Headquarters. Well, you could, if you could get out of storage. But you can’t. You probably need to fill out some kind of form about this problem. When we get your form, us Headquarters people will form a committee and eat doughnuts. Then, if we have time we will look into this issue and maybe get back to you.

  27. Yeah. Mrs L doesn’t get it anyway. I just ell her it’s my version of Facebook, which she checks multiple times a day. Of course, she says she can limit who sees her posts. But then, not as many people use WMB, so I feel safe here.

  28. I sent an email to NJL with the link to this blog so she would know where to find us.
As far was what to discuss we can scan Yahoo News, CNN, Fox, wherever and come up with something. Perhaps we could email TheRealAJ with a few questions of the day for him to post. Or someone could post a bit of scripture and something from their daily Bible study for us all to contemplate?

  29. Well, I just had to skip “email” altogether, and then it let me in. (As recently as half an hour I was still trying to go in and still trying to fill in the e-mail blank. Without it Mistem’s picture won’t show up, but at least I’m in!

I just went to Chick-fil-A and was approached by someone wanting money because their family has been kicked out of the motel they were staying in. I had my money in the seat beside me in full view. I gave the young lady $2.00 and told her to use it for the right purposes. I hope this is not some new ploy against Chick-fil-A to discourage patronage. Wednesdays are chosen as on-going appreciation days for those who want to participate..

But we can’t tell who gets 100 I guess. 😦 Unless someone wants to count. 🙂 So I’ll just go ahead and claim it now.

    100!

  40. Donna, how on earth does one register? It basically tells me they already have a Cheryl, sorry. E-mail me an invitation, somebody, or tell me how to actually be “official.” Or are you still trying to lose me?

  41. Mumsee,
Now, now Mumsee, of course you can talk. Glad to hear that first day at school went well. It can be stressful, so if he really enjoyed it that’s a lot to be thankful for.

  42. Cheryl, I couldn’t get “Register” or “Log in” to work earlier today. I just click on the comment box now, type my comment, my email and my online name, hit “Post Comment”, and that’s it. My comment shows up, so I think I’m official! 🙂

  43. I think the trick is you have to be registered with WordPress — I’d registered some years ago (apart from WM) so I could comment on some other pet blogs. But I couldn’t really remember my info so I had them re-set my password. Then I changed my display name back to donna j by using the wordpress edit profile feature; I’d already attached the Tess Avatar to my wordpress registration way back when, so that worked out. You can go to Gravatar and choose or retrieve your old one, I think; but gravatars are attached to whatever email address you gave them.

  44. Excellent Joe! I will be checking that out, and thank you. Tomorrow I’ll be posting some ideas, and asking for others, on what we should be doing as far as “contributors”, topics or categories, and what we’re gonna call the daily thread. This thing has a poll feature that I am dyyyyying to try. 🙂

Do the html tags work here?

  46. Kevin,

If you wave your curser over the pic next to your name it pops up a profile box. You can edit it and add a profile, or not if you don’t want to. What you make public is up to you. Doing this will also allow you to add a pic if you want a personal avatar. Pretty cool right?! 🙂

    Like

  47. Also, if you have your own site, you can link that from your name as well. Check mine and drivesguy’s, which is Joe B., and you’ll see what I mean. You just do it thru your profile. And tomorrow? A poll on what to call the new daily thread. I feel like it’s my birthday and I just recieved the coolest gift ever!

  48. Donna, in some of your posts Tess is a larger picture than in the last post you did. I enjoy the larger picture. Tess is so cute. Do you know how the picture managed to get smaller?

So glad to see you were able to get on here before day is done. Toobizy

    Like

  49. I’m not actually sure how I managed to keep my Gravatar picture. Maybe just because I logged in to Gravatar? I didn’t think I had a WordPress account. Let me see what happens when posting from my phone…

    Like

  50. Toobizy (or would you prefer Janice?),

It looks like the picture is smaller when the post is a reply to someone else, and larger when it’s a general comment and gets aligned along the left margin. 😉

    Like

  51. That worked – after I logged in to WordPress, so I guess I do have a WordPress profile. Or maybe it’s just integrated with Gravatar somehow.

    Like

  52. I think that’s it, 6 Arrows, replies to comments make the avatar appear smaller, underneath the comment you’re commenting on. If you put the cursor over the pictures, they get quite big, which is kind of fun. Tess is very cute, I have to say, and that’s always been my favorite pic of her. Since I’d visit dog blogs in the olden days, it also fit with the subject so I’ve just kept it on WM.

    Like

  53. Although if you click on the Tess picture, it takes you to a giant version in which you can literally see up her nose, which is not very appealing! It’s the same pic I have on my computer here at home, and it appears in giant, full nostril form there, too.

    Like

  54. Donna, your talking about Tess here tonight reminded me of seeing a dog a few weeks ago that looked just like Tess. I live out in the country, but one evening my husband and I decided to drive into town and take a walk along the city sidewalks. We saw someone walking her dog, and I did a double take when I saw how much that dog looked like Tess! I wonder if the dog’s owner thought I was afraid of dogs or something, I probably got pretty wide-eyed! 🙂

  55. Thanks for the tip, AJ. I’ve uploaded an image. I don’t see it yet, but I remember when I did it for WMB it took a little while for it to start appearing.

It’s going to be a challenge to keep up with this if we can either create a “new” reply or reply to an “old” reply. We’re used to going to the bottom of the thread to catch up on the latest. Now the latest might not be at the bottom, it might be new replies immediately below an earlier comment. Maybe after we’ve worked with it awhile AJ can recommend some conventions for posting.

    Happy birthday, AJ!
