What’s interesting in the news today?

The fight for control of Egypt continues to be a bloody affair.

From TheWallStJournal  “Egypt’s military regime, aided by snipers and bulldozers, swept the streets of Islamist protesters—setting off a day of violence that left more than 278 people dead, the government fractured and ties with its international partners in tatters.

Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers stormed police stations, burned down churches and battled with government supporters in several neighborhoods, after police sweeps left scores of protesters dead at two Cairo squares. The raid ended more than a month of sit-ins by thousands of Brotherhood supporters—sometimes joined by families, and daring the government to disperse them—who demanded the reinstatement of ousted President Mohammed Morsi.”

“Egypt’s interim president declared a monthlong, national state of emergency—raising Egyptians’ fears of extended conflict, further crackdowns and the prospect that the military regime they struggled to overthrow in 2011 was reasserting control.

Once again the Obama admin finds a way to repay campaign contributions from Planned Parenthood. And this is just in DC. There’ll be plenty more for the abortion leader in other cities and states. Which will of course enable the contributions to pro-abortion politicians to continue. A vicious cycle indeed. Just like they planned it.

From TheWashingtonExaminer  “Washington, D.C.’s health insurance exchange has awarded a $375,000 grant to abortion provider Planned Parenthood to help enroll participants in Obamacare, the exchange announced on Tuesday.

As part of its effort to boost enrollment in the exchange created by President Obama’s health care law, the D.C. Health Benefit Exchange doled out $6.4 million to 35 DC-based groups. Those groups include local churches as well as health care and community organizations.

One of the largest awards went to Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington D.C.”

Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife have been sentenced. Seems light to me, and why on earth are they rewarding his criminal behavior by not making him repay the 3/4 of a million dollars he embezzled?

From WGNTV  “A federal judge sentenced former congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. to 30  months, or 2-and-a-half years, in prison for misuse of campaign funds.

His wife, former Chicago alderman Sandi Jackson, was sentenced to 12 months  for tax fraud. Judge Amy Berman Jackson also ordered her to  pay $22,000 in restitution, which is the amount she spent from her campaign  as alderman.”

“The judge also ruled that Jackson does not have to pay restitution to his former  campaign because it is now defunct.”

“In February, the 48-year-old pleaded guilty to using $750,000 of his  campaign money for personal expenses—in many cases, on extravagant items such as  a Rolex watch and Michael Jackson memorabilia. He resigned from Congress in  November after 17 years in office.”

So 2 and a half years, out in half that for good behavior, and you make 3/4 of a mil on the deal. Who says crime doesn’t pay?

The persecution of George Zimmerman and his family continues. This is completely politically motivated, and once again, the prosecution is caught lying. If you only look at one link today, check out this one, and how the prosecution misrepresents the facts.

From PJMedia  “The affidavit for the perjury charge, written and submitted by special prosecutor investigator T.C. O’Steen, is — like the affidavit submitted for the murder charge — devoid of probable cause.

In fact, it does not establish a single specific statement made by Shellie Zimmerman and explain why that specific statement was false, why it was material, how it was a matter of objective fact, or why Shellie believed it to be false as she uttered it.

Of all of the elements of the offense that must be established and proved, the state established only that Shellie was under oath and testified in a judicial proceeding.

Not only does the affidavit fail to fulfill the elements of the offense, by omission it actually lies to and misleads the court. In this case, there is no doubt that Judge Lester was biased against George, but it is most likely that the affidavit was approved because judges are generally not used to dealing with prosecutors willing to lie to them. Receiving an affidavit for a felony charge, they tend to rubber stamp it, not considering that a prosecutor, an officer of the court, would mislead them. In this case, that’s exactly what happened.”

The pandering to homosexuals in the military by the Obama admin continues. The irony here is the claim that “they just want the same rights and treatment as everyone else” while they’re getting special rights others don’t have.

From CNSNews  “The U.S. Defense Department announced on Wednesday that  it will make “spousal and family benefits” available no later than Sept.  3, 2013, regardless of sexual orientation, for all service members who  can provide a valid marriage certificate.

And what about same-sex military couples who live in a state where same-sex marriage is not allowed? No problem.

“We  recognize that same-sex military couples who are not stationed in a  jurisdiction that permits same-sex marriage would have to travel to  another jurisdiction to marry. That is why the department will implement  policies to allow military personnel in such a relationship  non-chargeable leave for the purpose of travelling to a jurisdiction  where such a marriage may occur,” the DOD news release said.”

And remember folks, there’s no evidence that shows workers hours are being cut because of ObamaCare. The White House said so.

  1. Jesse Jackson makes $300,000/year sitting in prison.
Ten years from now, America will not be capable of fighting a war. This may be part of the plan.

  2. The Egyptian Military is doing what the Obama administration is afraid to do. The Egyptian Military is secular and is doing what needs to be done. Eliminate the Muslim Brotherhood. Many of the Officers in the Egyptian Military have been educated here in the United States and they have seen the benefits of a society free of Sharia Law. (How much longer we here enjoy that benefit is to be determined). Predictably the Goebbels press in the Lame Stream Media conveniently ignore the persecution of Christians in Egypt all the while feeding the American public the cyanide laced koolaide that the Muslim Brotherhood is peaceful and mean no one harm.

  3. Welcome to Obama’s America….
“Gay rights groups have launched boycotts and pickets against the family-owned business. The LGBT community has also threatened wedding vendors who do business with the Kleins.
“They’re trying to shut us down and they have completely alienated us from our wedding vendors,” he said. “They have killed our business through mob tactics.”
Klein said he’s had to take a fulltime job hauling garbage just to pay the bills and feed his five children.
“Between the LGBT community doing what they’ve done and now what the state is doing, it’s hurt our business,” he told Fox News.
Klein said his family has also been subjected to death threats.
“I’ve gotten almost a dozen death threats,” he said. “They said they hope my kids get sick and die.”
In spite of the violent threats and protests, Klein said they are standing firm.”

  5. Egypt — Obama is continuing standard US policy in not calling the military takeover a coup. US-Egyptian military ties go back to the Carter administration. Its highly unlikely any US president of either party will change this in the foreseeable future. The US had a similar approach to Turkish politics stretching back into the 50s (when Turkey joined NATO). The military is seen as a bastion of secularism. Interestingly, the Turkish government became more Islamic after 2002 when the AK Party was elected. And once elected they instituted “reforms” which eliminated the military as an independent force …. all without a peep from the Bush administration and thus ending 50 years of American policy.

In the case of Egypt, the current administration has chosen to ignore the obvious coup (the EU recognized it as a coup and cut off aid) essentially to maintain the Egyptian military as an ally. Interestingly one of the few American politicians to speak out against this policy is John McCain who called it a coup. If he was president, I would hope he would have embraced the Obama solution which is to ignore the obvious. Thus, I’m a little surprised some here are critical of Obama when he’s pursuing the secular path as opposed to the Muslim Brotherhood path embraced by McCain. Speaking of maintaining secular gov’ts, I wonder where the critics were when Bush Jr decided to rid the Middle East of the most secular regime, the one most tolerant of Christians, and Iran’s sworn enemy.

  6. Highly doubt the PP grant was a reward for election support. Although higher than the average of 174,000, the PP grant was not the largest. Capital City Area Health Education Center received $400,000 as did the DC Primary Health Care Association. The Whitman Walker Clinic clinic received $380 000. Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care received $300 000 as did Le Clinica Pueblo. Most of the larger grants went to organizations who covered the entire DC area whereas many of the churches who received smaller grants only service a smaller area. Looking at the list — African Methodist, Nazarene (Community of Hope, $200,000) and Baptist are all there.

Personally, I think this is all a waste of money and the government should actual hire their own employees instead of relying on non profits, churches, charities, and insurance companies to explain the program. But this is the neo-liberal way of running a gov’t …… contract out and/or privatatize.

  7. White collar criminals rarely pay back the money they fraudulently employed. Smarter than blue collar criminals they simply stash the money elsewhere and then claim bankruptcy which means they won’t have to pay even if the court orders restitution. And a court order is no guarantee the money will be paid. From what I understand only student loans are exempt from bankruptcy protection.

White collar crime does pay but then again look at Wall Street and politicians. Its the same type of people.Meanwhile, marijuana possession gets you up to 10 years in some places. It indicates who writes the rules.

SSM and the military– no pandering here just the military admitting the validity of marriage certificates obtained elsewhere and allow extended leave in order for a soldier to get married.

  8. HRW,

“Highly doubt the PP grant was a reward for election support. Although higher than the average of 174,000, the PP grant was not the largest. ”

Correct. However none of the others are receiving money in other cities and states on level with PP. Nationwide, when it’s all said and wasted, PP will be one of, if not the largest recipients of ObamaCare propaganda cash.

And it’s well documented how generous PP is to Dems. This kinda cash is funneled right back to Dem coffers. You’d have to be pretty naïve to think it doesn’t. Or you’d have to be OK with it. Same goes for the taxpayer funds they get. While it may not go directly back to the politicians who gave it to them, it certainly frees up cash elsewhere to make political donations with huh?

  9. Comparing nationwide would be difficult — as there’s no other organization with the same scope as PP and who’s willing to participate in the ACA.

As I stated before, I think its a colossal waste of money — the use of third parties to do what is essentially gov’t work is horribly ineffecient. The gov’t should hire new full time workers to implement the program …. anytime you skip the middleman you save money,

As for NGOs receiving gov’t money and then donating to political parties, I would see it as a problem except private corporations receiving gov’t subsidies also end up donating to political parties. Its a vicious circle and the latter is worse than the former in terms of the economic health of the nation. Of course, you could do what I believe 11 House Republicans did… vote themselves subsidies on the Farm Bill. Nothing like giving yourself gov’t money.

  10. HRW, I was completely opposed to Little Bush’s invasion of Iraq. As you suggested, the invasion eliminated Iran’s primary rival in the region and replaced him with a friendly Shiite Iraqi regime. Any 12 year old with knowledge of the region could have predicted the result. A few prominent conservatives (Dick Armey, Robert Novak and Pat Buchanan, to name a few) also opposed the invasion.

I’ve often thought that Bin Laden must have marveled at how the stupidity of Little Bush and Congress magnified the effect of 9/11:
    1. We overreacted and created unnecessary agencies and departments (TSA and Homeland Security).
    2. We abused and greatly damaged our military by our idiotic prosecution of the Iraq War.
    3. We destabilized the entire Middle East and helped radicals by insisting on democracy in the region.
    4. We radicalized millions by unnecessarily occupying a Muslim nation (Iraq).
    5. We made life a living Hell for Christians living in the Middle East.

With Obamacare, Obama took something that was broken and is making it worse. By invading Iraq, Little Bush took something that was iffy and made it a complete disaster.
